The Kala Bandhani Satchel
Tied, dyed, and hand-stitched in Kutch.
Kala Bandhani Trunk Bag
Modelled on the petara, the domed trunk a Gujarati bride once carried her life in, the Neel Petara is built the slow way. The indigo panels are bandhani- thousands of points tied by hand, dipped, and untied to reveal their tiny white squares. The leather yoke across the front is hand-punched in a diamond pattern, and every edge is whipstitched in waxed cream cord rather than machine-sewn.
Open it and the story continues: a madder-red Ajrakh block print lines the interior, with a zip pocket in the lid and room enough for a notebook, sunglasses, a water bottle, and the rest of it. Antique brass fittings, a rolled leather top handle, a D-ring for the detachable strap, and wooden-bead tassels that knock together softly when you walk.
Each piece is made by a small group of artisans in Gujarat. No two bandhani panels dye alike, so yours will be quietly its own.
